ESL Program

The mission of the English as a Second Language Program at Jacksboro ISD is to provide effective English language instruction utilizing high yield second language acquisition strategies in conjunction with the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) to support English learners. Our goal is that all English learners will be academically and linguistically proficient by participating in a challenging and rigorous curriculum to acquire the skills necessary to be successful.

  •  Who qualifies?

A student who uses or hears another language in the home other than English as indicated by the Home Language Survey is tested with an Oral Language Proficiency Assessment to determine their English language proficiency. The student has to be either NES or LES to be able to enter the ESL Program.

  • NES (Non-English Speaking)

  • LES (Limited-English Speaking)

  • FES (Fluent-English Speaking)

The Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) determines the eligibility for services according to TEC §29.051-29.064.

  • What does ESL and EB stand for?

ESL stands for English as a Second Language. This is the federal term used when we refer to the program.

EB stands for Emergent Bilingual. This term refers to the students who participate in the ESL Program.

La misión de Inglés de la Jacksboro ISD como Segundo Idioma es proporcionar la enseñanza efectivamente del idioma Inglés  utilizando estrategias de adquisición de un segundo idioma de alto rendimiento en conjunto con los Estándares de Competencia del idioma inglés (ELPS) para apoyar a los estudiantes del idioma inglés. Nuestro objetivo es que todos los estudiantes ELL serán académicamente y lingüísticamente competentes, al participar en un programa exigente y rigurosa para adquirir las habilidades necesarias para tener éxito.

  • Quien califica?

 Un estudiante que habla o escucha otro idioma en el hogar que no sea Inglés como lo indica la encuesta de lenguaje. El estudiante se pone a prueba con una evaluación del dominio del lenguaje oral para determinar su dominio del idioma Inglés. El estudiante tiene que ser NES o LES, para poder entrar en el programa de ESL.

Puntuaciones:   

  •      NES (no habla Inglés)

  •      LES (Inglés limitado)

  •      FES (habla Inglés con fluidez)

 El Comité de Evaluación de Dominio del Idioma (LPAC) determina la elegibilidad para los servicios de acuerdo con TEC §29.051-29.064. 

  • ¿Qué ESL o ELL representan?

ESL es sinónimo de Inglés como Segundo Idioma. Este es el término utilizado federal cuando nos referimos al programa.

ELL significa estudiante del idioma Inglés. Este término se refiere a los estudiantes que participan en el programa de ESL.
