Scholarships
Scholarships are available in minimal amounts before senior year. When the counseling office receives information on any scholarships applicable to our students, the information is posted in Google Classroom, under the Classwork Tab, in a Topic titled "Scholarships". Google Classroom posts are not deleted, but they follow students year after year, beginning in 7th grade. We have had successful students awarded scholarships junior year to be used when they start college.
Local (City and County) scholarship applications become available senior year, generally after January, and most applications are due before mid-April. These are also posted in Google Classroom, under the Classwork tab, under the Topic titled "Scholarships". Due dates are listed along with the detailed information counselors receive. Students simply need to get organized and apply. Scholarships are awarded in differing amounts by multiple organizations for students attending junior college, technical schools, and four-year colleges and universities.
Get organized and get to applying!
How do I get organized for scholarship applications?
Have a complete high school resume (an activities record is useful, too!)
Be prepared to hand that resume out to anyone whom you ask for a Letter of Recommendation.
Start asking for Letters of Rec early! Always give the recommender a minimum of 2 weeks to prepare your letter.
A resume is difficult to build when you don't remember what you've accomplished. At the end of each grading period, take a moment to record your accomplishments, activities, and involvement. Begin the first day of freshman year! And keep it updated with every report card.
Realize that every grade from every class you take will be calculated into your GPA. Do the work and the hard things now so you can enjoy the rewards later.
