Class Rules: Tiger Essentials Students are expected to treat both peers and teacher with respect and consideration at all times. The instructional time is important for all students and interruptions and disruptions are not allowed. Students will be subject to consequences if behavior is not appropriate. The following is the high school Tiger Essentials discipline standard: 10 min. lunch detention if: unprepared, uninvited talking; not working, no homework, or disturbing others. If detention is not served the same day as assigned, two morning detentions are assigned. These terms are subject to change from 10 min. at lunch to 30 minutes beginning and ending at 3:00-3:30 |
Assignments 4th six weeks will be based on analysis and evaluation of literary texts. This will encompass reading from different genres, expository writing, comprehension skills, vocabulary, application of literary terms, grammar, and listening and speaking skills Students will read a novel during this six weeks entitled, Animal Farm. The reading of this book will be primarily out of class, and students should find time in their personal schedules to read assigned selections and write in their reader's notebook all important information that might be beneficial to them in future testing situations. (review and study resource)Pre-Ap English Students will be mastering the same skills as on-level classes with deeper complexity and depth and using some different reading selections. This class is creating a basic foundation for future AP classes and ultimately the preparation for the AP test for college readiness and credit, based on culminate AP classes and knowledge acquired through high school.

EOC TEST This year all freshmen will be making the leap from the TAKS standardized test to the End of Course Test, also known as the STARR. Although the tests are different and the skills have been refined, I am confident that we can meet the expectation and have a successful year. The curriculum has been adjusted for the latest revision of the TEKS, and the students will rise to the expectations of our school and new state standards. We will include more cooperative learning, writing strategies, and grading may look a bit different. Let's make it a great year!
Pre-Ap English I Students will have some basic assignments that the on-level classes do, but with more complexity and depth. Reading content will vary for this class from on-level classes. Exposure to different genres of literary and classes will be taught in preparation for the AP test in two years. Pre-Ap moves at a more accelerated pace, and it is essential that students stay current and do not fall behind on assignments. |
Mrs. Epps' Motto Tell a child WHAT to think, and he/she will be a slave to your knowledge; Teach a child HOW to think, and he/she will make all knowledge his/her slave.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL STUDENTS News!!!!!! All 9th grade students took the new STAAR test March 26&27. We will not have the results for some time; however, the students worked hard and I have every confidence in their performance. Thanks Freshmen for being awesome!!!!!

Grades and Policies These subjects are explained in detail within the rules and procedures for English I and the student handbook your student will be bringing home for signatures. Late work is not accepted; an assignment that is not turned-in at the appointed time may be made up in tutorials (same day only) for 50% of the grade due at the appropriate time. Grading follows the school's policy, with the exception of a quiz grading, counting as much a three daily grades, and this assignment cannot be re-tested for a 70. All re-tests will be taken at 3:00pm at an appointed day that will be announced, and no grade higher than a 70 will be replaced for original test grade.
English I We will always have a class novel each six weeks. You student will be assigned a novel and will be reading outside of class, and students should journal in their reader's notebook. If the book is lost or destroyed, the student will be responsible for replacing it. We are focusing on skills needed for the STAAR test, and we will be writing essays and reviewing grammar. Your student will have the opportunity to come in at 3:00 each day for help and guidance. |
