Advanced Placement Exams

by Dianna Clayton

Students enrolled in an AP class, have the opportunity to take an AP exam in May. The score on the exam may earn them college credit for the course. The student must take the AP exam to earn weighted points for their GPA. The exams are administered during the day at the high school.

Parents should be aware that some highly selective colleges use AP exams to evaluate admissions applications. This applies primarily to highly selective colleges, like Harvard, Duke, Vanderbilt, Yale, etc. But whether or not your child intends to go to such a university JHS strongly encourages him/her to take the exam.
