PSAT/PLAN Testing Information

PSAT/NMSQT®

Test Date: Wednesday, October 12, 2011

What is the PSAT/NMSQT?

The PSAT measures critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing skills development.

Who takes the test?

Juniors (Highly recommended; Sophomores optional)

What is the cost for the PSAT/NMSQT?

The PSAT costs $14.00.

Why take the PSAT?

• Practice for the SAT Reasoning test
• Begin getting ready for college
• Receive feedback about critical academic skills
• Scholarship opportunity

How do I prepare for the PSAT?

• Prepare for the test with the Official Student Guide to the PSAT.
• Read the Sample Test Questions, Test Directions, and Test-Taking Tips.
• Take the Practice Full-Length PSAT

What should I bring on test day?

• No. 2 pencil and eraser, no mechanical pencils
• Approved calculator
• Social security number
• Email address

The PLAN® Test

Test Date:  Fall 2011

Who takes the test?

Sophomores (Highly recommended)

What is the cost for the PLAN

Why take the PLAN?

• PLAN is given at JHS to help students gauge their academic achievement and to give them the information they need for educational and career planning.
• The PLAN is designed to benefit all students, whether they plan to enter the workplace after high school, enter military service, go to college, seek post secondary training, or are undecided about their future goals.
• As a “pre-ACT” test, PLAN is a good predictor of performance on the ACT Assessment.

What is the PLAN?

• Academic tests in English, Math, Reading, and Science
• A Career Interest Inventory
• A Student Information Section on student plans, needs, and goals
• Each student who takes the PLAN receives a report that:
• Identifies academic strengths and weaknesses
• Helps students explore career interests
• Helps students focus on goals and preparation needed to achieve them

What should I bring on test day?

• Two No. 2 lead pencils/erasers
• Calculator for the math test

Test Tip: 

•There is NO penalty for guessing.
•Do not leave any blanks.
