Carruthers Background
by Vicki Carruthers

This current school year makes my 25th year in public education. I began this journey by working 4 years as a junior high and high school girls’ athletics coach and health teacher in Albany, Texas. I, then, decided to enter the world of business by establishing, Victoria’s Station, a hair and beauty salon, which I owned and operated for 15 years. I re-entered Texas public education in 1988, where I taught 6th grade students in Woodson, Texas for 10 years. I spent one year teaching 6th grade Social Studies in Waller, Texas, then moved into a 5th/6th grade school counseling position in Waller. I was a school counselor in Waelder, Texas (K-12) for two years and in Breckenridge, Texas (4th-6th grade) for three years. This is my second year at Jacksboro High School, giving me a total of 11 years as school counselor. I also have a special connection with Jacksboro that goes back to the beginnings of the Jacksboro schools. Mr. J. Z. Timmons, my grandfather’s brother, was one of the first superintendents of Jacksboro ISD. It’s no wonder then that Jacksboro High School feels like home to me- it’s a small world.
My Bachelor of Science in Education degree was earned at Abilene Christian University. I earned my Masters of Arts in School Counseling degree from Prairie View A & M University. My cosmetology certification followed an associates program in Glenn and Lottie’s School of Beauty.
I am married to Dr. Robert L. Carruthers, Jr., a retired school superintendent, who is currently teaching Math at Jacksboro High School. We commute every day from Woodson, Texas, where we own our home and a small farm. We share our home/farm with 3 dogs- Buddy, Gabe, and Prissy; 2 cats- Chocolate Drop, and Tiger; and 2 roosters- Barack and John. We also share our land with all sorts of wild critters- deer, turkeys, armadillo, squirrels, rabbits, coyotes, snakes, and owls. We are members of the Throckmorton Church of Christ and the Abilene Christian University Alumni Association.
We have 4 sons- Carl, Cody, Josh, and Chris. Carl is a pharmacist with United Stores in Lubbock and has a 7 year old son, Carter, and a 3 year old daughter, Carley. Cody and wife, Heidi, are teachers in League City and have 3 daughters- Alexis(8 years), Kaylee (4 years), and Samantha(16 mos.). Josh is an airline pilot with US Airways, and his wife, Brigette, is an Operation’s Executive with an agriculture supply company. They live in Spring Branch, Texas, with their German shepherd, Cy, and cat, Toby. Chris and his wife, Leah, are living in Cypress, Texas, with 7 month old son, Rylan. Chris is a coach and a teacher at Waller High School, Waller, Texas. Leah is working toward her bachelor’s degree in History/Education while being a young mother.
My outside interests are painting, decorating, sewing, Bible study, good movies, HGTV, and gardening. I am a big fan of the San Antonio Spurs, Indianapolis Colts, and Texas Tech Red Raider Football (Graham Harrell for Heisman Trophy 08-09!!!—Go Graham!!!).
