Purple Pride Band Wins Triple Awards
This year the JHS Purple Pride Band has achieved the status of being named a UIL Sweepstakes Band. On March 10, the band performed for judges at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest in Decatur. They played three prepared selections for evaluation and then participated in the Sight Reading portion of the contest. During the Sight Reading portion of the contest, the band was given seven minutes to learn a piece of band music the students have never seen before. The band was then required to perform the music for the panel of judges. The judges awarded the Purple Pride Band a First Division Rating in both parts of the contest, recognizing their ability to pay attention to musical detail in the concert portion, and the ability to quickly demonstrate their musical intuition in the sight reading portion. These two First Division ratings combined with the First Division rating recognizing their excellence on the marching field last fall combine to rank them as a UIL Sweepstakes Band. Although the Purple Pride Band has seen much success at contest these past few years, it has been nearly a decade since they have earned a Sweepstakes award. Please congratulate the band members for their dedication and hard work!
Their concert selections included a march entitled Boom Town, USA by E.B. Cannan, Our Kingsland Spring by Sam Hazo, and Three Chinese Miniatures by Robert Jager. Please watch for the announcement of the upcoming Spring Concert so you can experience all of the great thing happening with the Jacksboro Bands
