Harvey Academy Honors Hensley

Kelly Hensley, language arts teacher at Jacksboro Middle School in Jacksboro, was among 30 teachers from across the region honored by Weatherford College at the 2008-2009 Jack Harvey Academy of Exemplary Teachers celebration Jan. 30 at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center in Weatherford.

Celebrating its 13th anniversary year, the Harvey Academy honors exemplary teachers in the memory of Professor Emeritus Jack Harvey, who taught at WC for 23 years and was considered among his peers as a “master teacher.”

“We are pleased to present these awards to honor the work and recognize the efforts of these fine educators,” said Dr. Joe Birmingham, president of Weatherford College.  “Because of their love of education and dedication to their students, we can look toward the future with confidence that our students are receiving quality instruction and guidance.”

During her 27-year career, Hensley has been willing to serve on various committees to improve Jacksboro ISD, such as the District Improvement Team, the Campus Improvement Team, and the LPAC (Language Proficiency Assessment Committee) at the middle school, as well as the DEC Committee. According to her nominator, she is a dedicated professional who is respected by the administration, her fellow teachers, her students, and members of the community.

Additionally, Hensley’s students had a 98 percent passing rate on the eighth-grade TAKS Reading Test last year.  She is truly a great asset to the students and our school system.
